‘Relief Funds Used to Sell Shabu’

CADIZ CITY - A resident who used Typhoon Yolanda Emergency Shelter Assistance fund in selling shabu was nabbed in a police entrapment operation Tuesday night in Purok Lison, Villacin Street, Barangay Zone 6, in this city.

Police Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz PNP chief identified the suspect as Cyrus Barilea Caberte, 51 years old.

Caberte is not yet in the watchlist but his illegal activities were reported by his neighbors resulting to his arrest.

Recovered during the entrapment operation was a big elongated and medium sachets of suspected shabu in exchange for P300 marked money witht an undercover agent.

During the body search, police operatives confiscated a big sachet and 9 small heat-sealed suspected shabu, weighing scale, two cellphones, scissors, bamboo clip, 9 disposable lighters and P744 cash believed to be proceeds from selling the contraband.

He is detained at Cadiz PNP jail and charged with violation of RA 9165.

In Valladolid, police operatives also arrested two suspects in a buy bust operation Sunday evening in Barangay Central Tabao in the town.

Arnel Gomez, alias “Hudas”, 41, of Barangay Poblacion, Bago City was arrested along with Roland Maguran, 40, of Barangay Central Tabao, Valladolid.

Confiscated from Gomez were 12 sachets of suspected shabu while Maguran with drug paraphernalia.

Gomez was charged Tuesday with violation of Section 5, while Maguran with Section 11 of RA 9165.

In Manapla, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group led by Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome, Jr., in coordination with the local police force confiscated two small sachets of suspected shabu from brothers Kaye Jay and Aron Magalona, both of legal age, but failed to arrest the suspect who scampered and escaped sensing they were being entrapped.

The undercover agent acted as poseur buyer and suspects transacted in front of a food chain about 3:00 am Monday. It was the town’s fiesta culmination.

The suspects brought with the P500 marked money in their escape. The suspects are the No. 2 in the illegal drug watch list of Manapla PNP.

On Sunday, Manapla PNP led by newly promoted Chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio arrested Alfie Guarin, 21, of Barangay Punta Salong in the town at Barangay 1-B proper.

Confiscated from Guarin were four heat-sealed sachets with suspected shabu.

Charges were filed against him.*
