Cadiz Poll Registrar Relieved
CADIZ CITY- The Con-troversial Commission on Elections (COMELEC) registrar here was relieved from his post after he was ordered to explain the shooting incident involving him and his bodyguard with Cadiz City PNP along Gustilo Boulevard-Villena Streets, Barangay Zone 2 about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday.
The incident report was already forwarded by Negros Occidental Provincial COMELEC officer Atty. Jessie Suarez to COMELEC Regional office.
Atty. Revo Sorbito was relieved pending investigation of the incident. He was ordered to report to Provincial COMELEC office and was replaced in Cadiz City.
Sorbito and his bodyguard reportedly engaged Police Officer 3 Warren Lex De la Cruz, a member of Cadiz City PNP intelligence allegedly not knowing each other and claimed it was a mistaken encounter.
Instead, Sorbito driver was hit in the left thigh, while De la Cruz on his motorcycle.
Sorbito and his group came from the market area or a hotel here in the city and sped to their office. De la Cruz, on the other hand, was running opposite direction from Cadiz City PNP headquarters when he was alerted of the speeding vehicle.
It was not known who made the first shot but the driver of Sorbito was reportedly hit in the left thigh. On the other hand, De La Cruz was spared but his motorcycle was hit instead.
Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, OIC police chief here refused to give details of the incident claiming there was an amicable settlement between the two groups.
Last year, Sorbito was also involved in another case when his employee complained he was threatened by him with a handgun prompting the employee to ask for transfer to Bacolod COMELEC.*
