Power Watch Slams ERC Decision On Charging P232-M ‘UCQ’ to CENECO Consumers

Power Watch Negros is “strongly opposing” the implementation of the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) decision to collect from Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO) member-consumers the P232 million “unnominated contract quantities” (UCQ), beginning this month of October.

Wennie G. Sancho, Power Watch Negros Secretary-General, in a text message to Negros Daily Bulletin (NDB) last night said, “we vehemently and strongly oppose the ERC decision that grants power supplier KEPCO-SPC and power distributor CENECO to collect the P232-M from the member-consumers.”

BSP Names Frauds & Scams in the Country

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) named 10 common frauds and scams in the country and also gave tips on what to do when faced with them.

The Financial Literacy and Advocacy Division, Financial Consumer Protection Department placed first on the list text scam telling SIM owners they have won a huge amount of money, Credit card and ATM skimming, Ponzi or pyramiding scheme, Spurious investments and Identity theft.

Ex-Army Shot Dead

A former Army soldier was shot dead by two unidentified suspects after sending his adopted child to school in Barangay Amayco, Murcia town around 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

Senior Inspector Ryan Santillan, Murcia PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Benito Fernandez Neparanom, 45, married, of Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Amayco, Murcia.

The victim was on his XRM motorcycle waiting for his wife who sent off their child inside the school campus.

A resident of Barangay Bagong Silang, Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental was reportedly shot dead by an alleged Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (now KAPATIRAN) member in a river at Sitio Tangkongan and Sitio Bayabasan in the barangay around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. He was with two other companions.

The victim was reportedly identified as Robert Selendron, of legal age, according to his younger brother Reynold. Another companion, their uncle identified as Mario Dulman also escaped and unhurt.

‘SRA Will Not be Abolished’

The appointment of Herminigildo Serafica as the new head of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) is an assurance that the agency will not be abolished, said Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol yesterday.

Piñol, who is in Negros Occidental for a two-day visit, said President Rodrigo Duterte “only floated the idea.”

Piñol is meeting sugar workers this morning at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall and with sugar industry stakeholders in neighboring Talisay City in the afternoon.

La Castellana Mayor Asks PDEA to Validate Cop’s Claims Brod Linked to Drugs

La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor Mangilimutan yesterday, Sept. 26, 2017 asked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to validate claims made by a police chief linking her brother-councilor to the illegal drug trade.

Mangilimutan personally handed in her letter to the Office of PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino.

In her letter, Mangilimutan said that her brother, Councilor Alberto White Nicor is allegely being implicated in the illegal drug trade by Moises Padilla police chief Senior Inspector Alan Reloj.

MassKara 2017 Logo and Music Theme Launched

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Silver Masskara Foundation head Eli Francis Tajanlangit, concurrently 2017 MassKara Festival director, launched yesterday morning, September 25, at the NGC lobby, the logo and music theme for this year’s MassKara festival celebration which runs October 1 to 22.

The music was composed and arranged by Roberto ‘Bob’ Aves, while the logo was a creation of Mark Lester Jarmin.
