Indians’ Diwali Festival Set
Themed Unity in Diversity, the annual Diwali Festival of the Indian community in Bacolod City is set on November 8 to 12, 2017 featuring series of activities.
According to Haresh Chugani, Diwali coordinator, the festival is a tie-up activity with the city government of Bacolod.
The opening ceremony on November 8, 10 am, at the second floor of SM City Bacolod, is highlighted by the opening of exhibits of Indian products, with Councilor Em Ang as guest of honor and speaker. On November 9, 10am will be Yoga, Ayurveda and holistic healing session at the SM City Atrium and games with valuable prizes at stake. On November 9, 6pm, at the SMX Convention Center, is grand Diwali Festival Ball, with Cong. Greg Gasataya, Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Councilor Sonya Verdeflor to deliver messages.
Activities on November 11 at the Bacolod Public plaza are Punjabi & Bollywood Dance by USLS Artians Dancers; presentation of MassKara Festival 2017 champion by Brgy. 18 MassKara Dancers; and electric MassKara dancers from Brgy. 22, also fireworks display and live band concert.
Presently, there are 400 Indian residents in Bacolod City according to Malkit Singh, president of Punjabi Khalsa Diwan which is comprised by the Indian community.
Other officers comprising the Diwali Festival 2017 are Vic Singh, Prem Singh, Davinder Sing and Jhony Bapla.*(Edith B. Colmo)
