Sigabong Sang mga Kanyon Winners Named
The merged Barangays of Balingasag and Poblacion won the 2017 Sigabong sang mga Kanyon competition in connection with the 119th Al Cinco de Noviembre celebration in Bago City.
The winning kanyon and performers of Barangay Poblacion and Balingasag during the Sigabong sang mga Kanyon competition on November 5.*
They bested 12 competing merged barangays and received P15, 000 in cash prize. Barangays Ma-ao and Mailum settled for the second place and won P10, 000 cash. Third place went to Barangays Dulao and Don Jorge Araneta with a cash prize of P7, 000.
The criteria for judging include best re-enactment of the Al Cinco revolution and the loudest sigabong of the cannons. The said event is sponsored by the City Tourism Office led Senior Tourism Operations Officer Rosseni Mina and Balay ni Tan Juan Museum curator Clem del Castillo.
Sigabong sang mga Kanyon is a one of a kind event which was hailed as Best Tourism Event in the country for Arts and Culture category in 2009 and 2010 by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines.
Also, part of the celebration was the drum and lyre competition among the high schools and elementary schools in the Division of Bago City. In the secondary schools category, Ramon Torres Malingin National High School was the champion. They also awarded with Best Attire, Most Disciplined and Best Marching Band special awards.
In the elementary level, Best Attire and Most Disciplined awards went to Ma. Rosario Araneta Elementary School. Meanwhile, the best marching band went to Bago City Elementary School.*
