‘Oppose Same Sex Marriage Proposal’

The Muslim community in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental is vehemently opposing the proposed House Bill that will legalize same sex marriage.

Brother Abdul Rasid Espinosa of the Muslim Brotherhood, in a media interview, also urge Christians to oppose the proposed law which is now on second reading in Congress, pushed by no less than the Speaker of the House Con,g. Pantaleon Alvarez.

Rasid Espinosa, along with other Muslims, emphasized that in the marriage contract, there are two sexes, the male and the female, not male and male nor female and female.

This move, according to him and other Muslims, is forbidden in the Holy Scriptures, both the Quora’an and the Holy Bible. “Therefore Christians in all denominations must also take part in opposing this move. In the time of prophet Lot, God punished Sodom and Ghomorra because of the sinful acts of the homosexuals. If this move is legalized, God will send punishment to the people more severe than the previous ones,” Rasid Espinosa said, adding that the punishment of sin is death.

“If we allow this, it means we also support the sinful act, because we are tolerating the wrong. The intellectuals must have common sense and understanding what is abomination before God. We should make laws that will uplift the morality of the people. Sexual perversion is degrading morality and it is a sin which is punishable by death,” he added.

He also lamented on some church leaders who solemnize same sex marriage, saying “they should be the first to oppose.”

The Muslims are also challenging Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya to oppose this move in Congress, saying the Philippines claims to a Christian country so it must not allow same sex marriage.

“We are going out and expressing our opposition to the same sex marriage proposal in Congress to become a law,” he said.

Earlier, Msgr. Felix Pasquin of the Bacolod Diocese said, they oppose the proposed same sex marriage because it is an insult to the law of God about marriage, that a man will leave his father and mother and marry the woman as his wife. This is clearly said, the couple contracting marriage is a man and a woman, not man and man, nor woman and woman.*(Edith B. Colmo)
