2017 KBP-NPC Fellowship Games, KBP Captures Titles in Basketball, NPC Secures One in Volleyball

After a split result on the 1st leg, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas Negros Occidental Chapter dominated the 2-division basketball event and captured the Men’s volleyball title during the 2017 KBP-NPC Fellowship Games 2nd Leg at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports Center on Saturday.

The KBP 40&up team with Bacolod congressman Greg Gasataya, club president Boy Duran, and KBP-Negros Occidental Chapter chairman Jopy Plotria.*

But KBP succummbed to Negros Press Club in the Women’s side volleyball.

Armando Espina and Stanley Jordan scored in double figures to lift KBP’s 40&up basketball team with 22 & 20 points apiece, as Orville Alvarado added his version with 12. KBP won over NPC, 82-71.

Backstopping the team were Edward Mulliken, Ranel Bagonok & Bonnard Carmona got 6 pts apiece, Rorry James Soquiña with 4, and Genesis Diesto, Luzart Mendoza & Wilton Porcel got 2 each. Jeony Bigay and Castor Sasi Jr also played for the champion team.

NPC’s scoring duo of Anthony Toga and Buddy Ferrer who made 22 & 20 markers each fell short, as J.Bermejo converted 10. Teammates who struggled in the perimeter include C.Judar with 6, Boy Ciocon with 5, and Archie Alipalo, Art Tayhopon, Hernan Garciniego & A.Panchito had 2 each.

In the 40-Under, KBP’s Mark Salanga anchored his team with 25 points including a 14-pt explosion in the 2nd half, as Herbert Malata added 18 and Gerald Lamela made 14. KBP defeated NPC, 82-72.

Players chipping in for the turn around win were Chester Veronque with 8, Jefferson Lucasan & Rommel Azucena with 6 apiece, Tata Absin with 3, and Allen Jardencio with 2. John Dale Salazar and Jopy Plotria also played for the champion squad.

Judery Veliganio led the losing effort for NPC with 23 pts, as Maymay Alagaban and Sharku Lucasan backstopped the squad with 13 & 12 respectively. Other players scoring for the squad include Henry Toga with 7, Martian Muyco & R.Gantalao both made 6, and Alein Carlo Gazo with 4.

In volleyball, KPB defeated NPC in two sets (25-23, 25-15) to win the title in the Men’s division; while NPC volleybelles bounced back against KBP in three sets (18-25, 27-25, 25-22).

This media dual sports event is supported by the Office of Bacolod City Lone District Representive Greg Gasataya, Mayor Bing Leonardia, Merzci, DRRMO-Bacolod OIC Dondon Parandas, and Leo Vision.

The fellowship games are organized by the officers of NPC headed by Renato “Boy” Duran and KBP-Negros Occidental Chapter chairman Serafin “Jopy” Plotria, Jr with Toga as chairman of the sports committee.*
