Titans Made History in NOPSSCEA Caging Finals
Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias (CSAV) Titans made history after disposing La Consolacion College-Bacolod (LCC-B) Blue Panthers, 96-56, in the semi-finals of the 37th Season of NOPSSCEA Men’s basketball competition at the STI-West Negros University gym on Sunday.
This will be the first championship appearance of CSAV Titans in the best-of-3 basketball finals.
The Titans came out sizzling from the first whistle as Jeric Adonio knocked a triple to spark his team’s full control of the entire game with a 24-13 blast in the opening quarter. Adorio connected 7 points to lead the Titans as Jeffrey Manday added 5 markers as Vladimir Pangantihon and Carl Magbanua sunk treys each.
But, the multi-titled Elvis Atinado-mentored Titans’ advantage ballooned to 24 points, 41-17 half-way of the second quarter behind Christian Montepio’s pair of triples and Manday’s 6-point output. Blue Panthers’ Michael Herdon and Lupert Gaspar tried to cut down the deficit with their own counter plays, however, their efforts weren’t enough as CSAV’s Adorio, Sajo and their Cameroonian center Junior Essakadowalla controlled the paint as Titans posted a 51-24 edge at the half.
While the Ritchie Militante-coached Blue Panthers struggled to get their points, Titans enjoyed their scoring spree as Adorio added 5 more points under his name as John Valdez connected 4 points to anchor a well-balanced offense in the third period to register a huge 75-39 comfort going into the final quarter.
Adorio paced Titans with 16 points as Pangantihon added 13 points, Manday has 12 points, John Egat and Yoro with 7 points each while Essakadowalla, Sajo and Montepio added 6 points apiece.
Meanwhile, Timothy Montinola and Kurth Sudayon led Blue Panthers’ low scoring performance with 8 points each while Gaspar and Nico Apostol with 7 apiece.* (JGToga)
