ANOPSSAI is Beyond Physical Competitiveness

The staging of this year’s ANOPSSAI meet in Murcia is beyond physical competitiveness. It’s a venue for spiritual growth, said Melinda Guanzon – principal of the host-Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy, in an interview during the opening rites last Wednesday.

Gladys Amylaine Sales, and EPS 1 Julito Felicano – In-Charge of the Private Schools Division of Negros Occidental, led the ANOPSSAI opening ceremony last November 15 at Murcia municipal gym.*

Guanzon said that that it’s only through discipline that they can achieve their goal in this competition. “It’s not only the discipline of the body but, of the spirit. We believe that this is all for the glory of the Lord. Without God, there will be no activity that will occur in this meet,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nonong Verdeflor, Executive Assistant to the governor, stressed that by reverting to Palarong Panlalawigan – after it was temporarily abolished due to NIR meet, lots of Negrense athletes will be able to receive support and incentives from the provincial government. “Our governor [Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr.] always wanted to ensure that government support reaches our deserving athletes who bring honor to the province,” he said. The provincial government has also extended financial assistance for the ANOPSSAI staging.

DepEd-Negros Occidental Assistant Supt. Gladys Amylaine Sales, on the other hand, reminded the athletes and coaches of sportsmanship and that what is more important is how they take part in the competition. “I would like to commend our coaches, trainers, and parents for your sacrifices in developing these athletes. Thank you for the time and efforts you have shared with them,” she said.

Education Program Supervisor 1 Julito Felicano, In-Charge of the Private Schools Division of Negros Occidental, challenged the ANOPSSAI-member schools to stay strong and remained united amidst the challenges.

The winners in the 3-day ANOPSSAI meet will represent Area 10 in next month’s Palarong Panlalawigan.*
