Mansilingan Team Chess Tourney Set Nov. 26

The much anticipated 2017 Barangay Mansilingan Annual Fiesta Team Chess Tournament is all set to start off on Sunday, November 26 at A.L. Jayme Elementary School.

Organized by the Mansilingan Chess Society officers and members, this two-division chess event seek to gather the best and smartest woodpushers in the barangay level.

“Our chess club (ManChess) continue to hold monthly tournaments in several age-groups, so that they would improve their skills in this sport,” ManChess president Engr Nestor Cena said.

The rapid chess team event tournament format will have a time control of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move for 7 rounds of play in Swiss System.

Each trios team in the 14 and Under group shall compose of 13 to 14 years old on Board 1, 11 to 12 years old on Board 2, and 10&U on Board 3, or 12&U on Boards 1 to 3.

In the Open division; each doubles team shall include class A on Board 1 and class B on Board 2, or semi class A (A-) on Boards 1 to 2, or class B on Boards 1 to 2.

Scoring system will use Match Points (W=2, D=1, L=0) to determine the winning team. Direct encounter, game points, and MP shall be the basis for Tie Breaks.

Prizes at stake in the age-group is Php4,500 for the champion, while the top finisher in the open division will get Php7,500. Both teams will also receive its trophies.

The second to fifth placers in both divisions are set to pocket their respective cash prizes plus medals. Individual, team, and surprise special awards are expected to be given during the award ceremony after the one-day tournament.

A registration fee of Php400 is set for early birds on or before tomorrow, Nov 21 at ManChess Center, Mansilingan in Bacolod City. This Wednesday, the fee will increase by a hundred peso and it will become Php600 on Saturday.
