‘Guide Your Children, Instill Discipline’
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) advises parents to guide their children and practice positive discipline at home.
Social Welfare Aide Narciso Abad III said in a radio interview that despite how hectic the parents are, they should reflect and not neglect the duties to their children on becoming responsible adults.
“We should enforce positive discipline. Five to 10 years from now, if these children are not guided, what will happen to our communities,” Abad asked.
Abad added that members of the family must bear love and respect to each other as it is known as “the basic unit of the society”.
Citing the advancement of technology and lack of time for family dinners, social relationships and communications skills are often hampered.
Under Republic Act No. 10661, the month of November celebrates the National Children’s Month.
This declaration honors the espousal of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly.
“The children’s month celebration is one way of giving importance to our children who are regarded as the best human resource of the country,” Abad expressed.*(JSC/LML/PIA6 Negros Occ.)
