Despite the issues he is facing, Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella still managed to radiate the biggest smile when he officially opened the 36th MassKara Festival at the Public Plaza yesterday.

Department heads, City Hall employees, students, organization representatives and barangay leaders also joined Puentevella in kickstarting Day 1 of the 19-day celebration together with Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya, Sonya Verdeflor, Noli Villarosa, Wilson Gamboa, Jr., Executive Assistant Rocky Puentevella and First Lady Josefa Puentevella.
After the aerobics session and performance by local hip-hop group Bacolod Souljaz, Vice Mayor Gasa-taya recognized the audience’s energy as a sign that they are ready to celebrate MassKara.
“This is our Festival, this is our celebration,” said Gasataya, who also lauded the efforts of Kasadya Bacolod Development Foundation, Incorporated and Festival Director Rhoderick Samonte and his volunteers.
The Vice Mayor added that the whole Sangguniang Panlungsod supports this year’s fiesta.
Puentevella, on the other hand, reiterated that “all roads should lead to Bacolod” every October to take part in one of the most anticipated and colorful festivals in the world, and that MassKara is the only festival in the Philippines to be included in the list of 12 international parties that are worth buying a ticket for.
“Today we start yet another historical MassKara Festival. Celebrate with your friends, your family and in the spirit of the Almighty,” expressed Puentevella, as he also thanked for good weather in spite of the heavy rain the night before.
Samonte also led in administering the Oath of Amateurship to the competitors and organizers in this year’s events.* (CMO-PIO)
