DILG Usec Hinlo Meets Bacolod Police Chief
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jesus “JV” Hinlo Jr. met Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, the Acting City Director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) during an official visit recently at the conference room of BCPO.
Usec Hinlo took the time to discuss with Chief Wanky to give his inputs on how to address the current peace and order situation in the city, focusing on robbery and theft incidents considering that he heads the public safety sector in the DILG.
Hinlo reminded Wanky to strengthen legal offensives and to have a good case build-up in the preparation of criminal complaints against arrested suspects.
He also discussed about other anti-criminality matters such as to intensify the conduct of check points in strategic areas especially during the MassKara festivities.
“Make sure the complaints against the suspects are air-tight especially for those who are considered recidivists”, Hinlo said. The police must also coordinate closely and seek the guidance of prosecutors because they are partners of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in fighting criminality.
BCPO must also initiate or organize seminars for police investigators and operatives to refresh them about the basics on how to perform their respective functions well and invite competent speakers from the National Prosecution Service (NPS) or from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for additional learning and inputs for the Police force in the city.
He also reminded Wanky that the police should send a strong signal to the lawless elements to fear the police and the public should not be weary because they have their police protecting them too. Hinlo reiterated that the police must be closer to the public, BCPO must enhance rapport with the community to regain their trust and confidence and make the public well informed about the various contact numbers of the ten police stations so that the police will be accessible to them in times of need.
On his part, Chief Wanky informed the undersecretary about the anti-criminality initiatives of the BCPO and assured him that the police are doing its best to address the peace and order concern in the city, and that the BCPO is on top of the situation.* (SPO1 Jared E. Esquilla/PIO)
