As TFK Readies Filing of Complaints vs. DPWH, Edison on Mangrove Destruction, Etc. Gasataya to Look Into the Matter

An anti-graft and corruption group based in Bacolod City is finalizing the drafts of its complaints and charges it is filing against some officials of the Bacolod City District Engineering Office and Edison construction firm responsible for the illegal cutting of mangrove trees, and other alleged anomalies, involving the P148 million flood control project at Gatuslao Extention in Barangays 1 and Mandalagan in Bacolod.

The Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental is one of five airports in the country that will be included in the inquiry for privatization plan.

Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya said, under the proposed plan, concession agreement to maintain and operate said airports will be for 30 years.

The proposal to conduct congressional inquiry in aid of legislation was the result of a hearing by the committee on transportation regarding the planned privatization of the five airports.

DPWH Bacolod, DENR, Edison Construction Scored for Mangrove Cutting

The Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Bacolod City District Engineering Office, the Manila-based Edison Construction & Development, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are being asked on who gave the authority to cut scores of very old mangrove trees at a multi-million-peso flood control project site in Bacolod.

‘FLOOD CONTROL & MANGROVE DESTRUCTION’. Is the DENR aware of this mangrove destruction at the P148-M flood control project site at Gatuslao Extension (near Go Hotel & Robinsons Bacolod) undertaken by the DPWH Bacolod City District Eng’g Office and Edison Construction? Yesterday’s photos show that the thinning mangrove tree population is due to ongoing engineering works. Why no billboard that indicates the details of the multi-million-peso project?* (Arman Toga photos)

Leonardia Requests Cong Gasataya to Amend Charter Day Law

There is urgency to amend Republic Act No. 7724, otherwise known as the commemoration of Bacolod City Charter Day, that Mayor Evelio Leonardia requested Cong. Greg Gasataya to file a bill amending Republic Act No. 7724, that “erroneously set a wrong date for the celebration of the Charter Day of Bacolod”.

This is the appropriate time to correct a “historic error,” Leonardia said.

Bacoleños are celebrating once again a historic event on June 18, the day that President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 326 creating Bacolod as a city.
