President/Editor in Chief
A multi-awarded and well-travelled media practitioner who had been with the
community press since 1960. Now on his 50th year in community journalism, he
started as news reporter when the Negros Bulletin then a weekly, started
publishing in September, 1960, now on its Golden Year, and still counting.
Under his watch as Editor in Chief, the Negros Daily Bulletin had been adjudged three times nationally by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) and Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) of Germany as "Best in Environmental Reporting" in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
* Awarded Plaque of Merit (Special Citation) as "Outstanding Journalist during the 69th Charter Anniversary of Bacolod City when the city honored the annual "Banwa-hanon Awardees," on October 19, 2007.
* Named "Outstanding Alumnus" in the field of Journalism/Press Freedom," by the BCHS Alumni Class ’58 during its 50th (Golden) alumni homecoming on April 19, 2008.
* Awarded with Certificate of Appreciation for Excellence in the Media Profession by the BCHS-BCNHS General Alumni Association, Inc. (GAAI) on August 9, 2009.
* Awarded and honored during ceremonies hosted by the Negros Press Club, oldest media organization in the country, as one of the year’s "Top Media Stalwarts" for distinct performance in local journalism on October 10, 2009.
* Twice elected President, Negros Press Club and thrice as Vice President, Iloilo Press Club; Chairman, Negros Media Council for Press Freedom and the Negros Occ. Press Freedom Foundation, Inc.
* Bureau Chief, Philippines News Agency (PNA), Negros Occ. and Panay areas (comprising Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, Aklan) from 1974 to 1999, after which he retired from government service to devote full-time as President & Editor-in-Chief of the NEGROS DAILY BULLETIN, todate.
* Foreign travels> He was on study trip to Bangkok, Thailand in 1986 representing the Philippines during a Journalism Workshop on the Quality of Life at Mahidol University, sponsored by the UNICEF and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN);
* Recipient of a two-month Study Grant in the US Mainland sponsored by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) in 1988; Then he went on educational and cultural tour of landmarks in Los Angeles and Long Beach in California; New York City, Canandaigua, Niagara Falls and the Finger-lakes in Upstate New York; Boston, Massachusetts, State of Virginia and Washington, D.C. in 1988 and 1999.
* In year 2000-2001, he went on study and observation tour of modern sugar mills and mechanized farms in Bangkok and several other sugarcane plantations in Thailand on invitation and sponsorship by the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters (NFSP).*
