A World Champion in a class of her own – Murciahanon Mary Angeline Uy Alcantara bested 21 female competitors and bagged the Gold Medal and Most Valuable Player on the recently concluded 3rd World Cadet Taekwondo Championships at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt last August 24-27.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson gave Alcantara a citation in recognition to her exemplary feat that represented the country in the said tournament. Vice Governor Lacson told Alcantara to train hard and prepare for the upcoming tournaments ahead of her and if lucky enough, to target for representing in the Olympics in the year 2020.
Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. lauded the performance of Angeline Alcantara and gave her a Governor’s incentive. The Governor also told Alcantara that he would be very proud to see her compete in the Olympics.
Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano told members of the media during a pressconfab at the Provincial Capitol that the Municipality of Murcia is concentrating in supporting future athletes in Taekwondo and Boxing, it has produced professional boxers and now a World Champion in Alcantara. “Being able to help these athletes is like preparing their future while they are in the sport”, Mayor Andrew added.
