Fire Hits Cadiz
Thirteen houses were razed by an afternoon fire Tuesday in Purok Tanguigue, Barangay Zone 6, Cadiz City.
The houses were totally burned in an hour of conflagration that started at about 2:20 p.m..
The houses were made of light materials and the fire was fanned strong easterly winds.
The area is just a few meters from the shoreline.
Fire Officer 2 Renel Basco of Cadiz Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) disclosed that they put the fire under control half an hour later, and declared a fire out at about 3:30 p.m.
Firetrucks from Sagay City, Manapla, Lopez Sugar Central and local CREATE Rescue Group responded.
The BFP estimated he fire damage at P1-M.
No casualty was reported but nearly a hundred individuals were affected.
Basco said the the fire may have been caused either by a leakage in a gas stove or faulty electrical wiring, based on their initial investigation.
The city government immediately assisted the fire victims through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The affected families whose houses were totally burned were those of Romy Nicor, Joey Nicor, Trinidad Nicor, Roberto Nicor, Edwin Nicor, Joel Nicor, Danilo Insoma, Nestor Agustin, Bonifacio Cañete, Mateo Cañete, Andres Cañete, Joebert Calinsag and Jopel Tabanao.
Most of the victims spent their night either at their relatives’ houses or the covered court in Barangay Zone 6 and Barangay Hall.*
