NPA Fails to Extort, Raids Solar Power Plant
The communist-terrorist NPA in Negros Island once again showed their true nature as an anti-people and anti-development armed group when they raided and attacked the tower number 7 of HELIOS Solar Energy Power Plant in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City on September 14.
At about 10:15 in the evening Thursday, about 10 armed communist-terrorists deliberately fired at the installation using high powered firearms which resulted to the damage of several solar panel board and one CCYV camera. The attack incurred an estimated total cost of damage amounting to P250,000, the 3rd Infantry Division in Jamindan, Capiz reported in a press statement to the media.
Recovered from the NPAs prepositioned area include six empty shells of M203 grenade launcher, five live ammunitions of .45 caliber pistol, two live ammunitions of garand rifle, two long magazines of M16 with five live ammos, two pins of hand grenades and several empty shells of different kinds of high powered firearms.
Prior to the attack, it was reported that the solar company received an extortion demand from the Roselyn Pelle Jean Command, Northern Negros Front of the NPA sometime in June 2015 but failed to give in.
Major Gen. Jon Aying, Commander of the 3rd ID believed that the company’s refusal to yield to the NPA’s extortion demand was the motive of the attack.
“The attack is an intentional destruction of developmental and economic installation which provide sufficient supply of solar energy in the said town”, MGen. Aying stressed in the same statement..
Despite of the attack, MGen. Aying lauded the solar company for rejecting the NPA’s selfish demand even the refusal is tantamount to the destruction of the said vital installation. “Refusal to NPA’s extortion demand is also equivalent to disapproval of their terroristic acts like killings, arsons and rebellion” he added.*(PR)
