Aglipay Priest Shoots Dead Church Helper in Dumaguete City
A priest of the Iglesia Filipina Independencia (Aglipay) church shot dead a church helper after a drinking binge in Barangay Daro in Dumaguete City around 12:30 in the morning Saturday.
Police Senior Inspector Fortunato Villafuerte in his report to Negros Island Region Police Regional Office-18 identified the victim as Junjie Arellano, about 30 to 40 years old .He sustained gunshot wound in the body and rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival.
Villafuerte identified the priest as Fr. Windy Rubio Dediego, legal age, married and resides inside the church compound like Arellano. He used an unlicensed .45 caliber firearm with two magazines loaded with bullets.
He was arrested and detained for murder case and violation of RA 10591.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim and the suspect were having a drinking binge just outside the church when the priest excused himself to go ahead to sleep.
The victim followed to also sleep but once inside the church, he kicked one of the tables. This awakened the priest who took his firearm and went out of the house he occupied with his family. The victim was unruly despite telling him to calm down so he shot him several times.
