The event was participated in by local government units, national government agencies, industries, people’s organizations, non-government organizations, TVET institutions, and the academe from the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
The activity is aimed at providing a venue to engage Technical Vocational Institutes together with concerned stakeholders in making the TVET reforms and development agenda more relevant and attainable and in generating information on regional and area specific skills needs required in the formulation of the regional/provincial technical education and skills development plans.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. urged the participants to plan and work together while assuring them of the provincial government’s support on their programs to help combat poverty.
Gov. Marañon cited the story of Mark Escora, a former jeepney barker, who is now holding a supervisory position in one of the call center companies in Bacolod after he was given a chance to develop his skill in English Proficiency through the Negros Occ. Language and IT Center.
The governor also said that more investors are interested to invest in the province but there is a need to capacitate our human resource so that we can provide our investors with the required workforce needed to start their business.
Also present in the activity were TESDA Deputy Director General for Policies and Planning, Rosanna A. Urdaneta, TESDA-VII Regional Director, Florencio Sunico, Jr., TESDA-NIR Interim Regional Director, Floro Ringca and Asst.
