250 Persons, 40 Businesses Apprehended for Defying Anti-smoking Ordinance
Two Hundred Thirty (250) persons and 40 establishments have been apprehended by the Bacolod City Anti-Smoking Task Force – Action Team since they started their operation on September 1, 2017.
Most of the violators were caught smoking in public places, like in the plaza and the downtown area while establishments were apprehended for not complying the required designated smoking area and warning signs and for tolerating smoking in their area.
“Individual violators and establishments were issued citation tickets which indicates the violation and the penalty to be paid where they are only given five (5) days to settle the fine by Office.”, Distrito added.
Distrito said further that the number of apprehend individuals and establishments is a manifestation that the City through the Anti-Smoking Task Force and the Action Team is very serious in implementing the anti-smoking laws and to make Bacolod as a Smoke Free City.
The BASTF’s 4 Action Teams headed by the Action Officer Ben Solilapsi will continuously conduct operations in various areas of the City as means of strictly implementing the anti-smoking ordinance of the City and the Executive Order of the President.
The Bacolod City Police Office through SSUPT. Jack Wanky, also assigned SPO3 Alex Mendoza, SPO1 Richard John Sy, PO3 June Bustillo, PO1 Joemarie Castillon, PO1 Rodel Barayoga, PO1 Chrismar Leduna, PO1 Freddie Bragat Jr and PO1 John Mark Ardiente to help the BASTF-Action Team in their operations.
The Bacolod Anti-Smoking Task Force also calls for those who have been apprehended to settle their fines as soon as possible to prevent legal charges to be filed against them.*(Benedick J. Ledesma)
