Mayor to Sit with BREDCO Execs on 8-ha Property ‘Breakwater’

Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella announced last week that the technical team of the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) is in the city to officially measure the 8-hectare property at the Reclamation Area.

Puentevella stressed that the request to turn over the asset to the city government will be coursed through the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP). Once approved, there will be "no hindrance" in titling the property as "Bacolod property".

‘Port Zone Delineation CDC O’k Not Yet Final, SP Approval Needed’

The approval of the City Development Council (CDC) on the request of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for port zone delineation is not yet final as it requires the concurrence of the Sangguiang Panlungsod, said Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito, newly assumed chair of the SP Committee on Government Assets.

"There will be a lot of considerations and factors to consider before the port delineation will be approved by the SP, like the question why the port development is necessary before the P420 million port development will be implemented, why it consists of 21 hectares and not the finger port alone, the boundaries and coverage of the port zone delineation, what will happen to the thousands of residents living along the Banago shoreline, and many other legal issues that will come out in the course of deliberation," Distrito said in a statement sent to media yesteday.

He added that a public hearing will also be called to listen to the side of the present port operator of the city port, BREDCO, especially on the letter sent by Atty. Simplicio Palanca questioning the port delineation and opening of the Banago Port.

"We will take into consideration the points raised by Atty. Palanca in his letter to the Sanggunian. We will give him that privilege considering of his contribution to the development of the city, although we want to hear from him also that he will say that he is willing to increase the rental fees that BREDCO is paying to the city," Distrito added.
